The Gorgeous Leicester Canal - England

June 11th, 2009

There was a glimmer of sunshine recently in England - we could actually wander around outside in shorts and t-shirts. A Miracle.

Anyway this was the opportunity to complete a walk along the whole of the old Leciester Canal - finishing off the stretch between north of Fleckney right up through the City of Leicester to where the canal meets and ends at the River Soar.

Pleae take a look at our GUJC Leicester topic for pictures of the canal on this stretch.

Little Wonder MPs don’t get it.

May 27th, 2009

This most recent set of stuff about MPs and their fiddling even for minor items shows how little they can understand about ordinary humans day to day living and costs.

If you don’t pay for anything - from bath plugs to houses for your ducks to electricty bills to tv licences then how an earth can any mp know what it is like on a daily basis for many people to make ends meet. They have to be completely out of touch with us - they do not live in our world as they never have to buy anything with their own salarys.

Dreary Blears

May 27th, 2009

Just picture Hazel Blears at the end of each week - hard at work as an mp with little time to do anything much - EXCEPT for allocating a dozen hours to check she has grabbed all she can from expences. Lets see - look we have only spent £98.86 this week on our food allowance. Hmm - quick get off down the shops and buy two carrots and ensure they do not come to more than 14 pence.

India holiday guides - more of them.

May 19th, 2009

We have at last made topics on various parts of India which we visited whilst on holiday several weeks ago - these include holiday guides for Varanasi, Agra and Fatehpur Sikri, Khajuraho and Orchha. Hope they are of use as holiday guides and hints on places to sightsee for anyone thinking of their next holiday in India.

No surprise to see Mandelson prominent in the mp expences row.

Nuff said.

Gulpy Brown will not go.

May 15th, 2009

This so-called Prime Minister i.e. chancellor Brown will not call a general election until the last moment. He was never voted in by us so he is not actually a Prime Minister anyway - you have to stand for election and win such to be a Prime Minister. He is hoping to last several years in the hope that history will see him as a prime minister but we know better.
Apart from that little issue, he is so weak not least because of the way he has presided over the devastation of the UK economy for 10 or so years - that he has minimum control over his theiving mps - he cannot fire any of them because of this weakness.
It is really very unfair of Cameron to keep leading the way over action on mp’s rip-off expences and making Gulpy look so inadequate. Gulpy is totally out of his depth and Cameron should be careful he does not breach Gulpy Brown’s human rights - after all Gulpy Brown is a WORLD LEADER so the spin says - with all the other “Leaders” constantly seeking his advice about the recession etc.

Cunning Plan - Gulpy Brown to win the next election.

May 10th, 2009

Well after all the hype from Gulpy Brown and the rest of the Labour Government (??) about how they are right on top of the swine flue or as we call it pig flue problem- in that a leaflet telling us all how to survive would be with us almost immediately - we have not received this leaflet.

Think the plan actually is that only Labour activists will get this leaflet and thus survive - all the rest of us will catch pig flue and - without the leaflet to save us - will all be far to ill or even worse (from OUR point of view at least) might die. Therefore we will not be able to vote in any forthcoming elections and Guply Brown and his snouts-in-troughs mps will all be back in what they call Government.

Blearsy will love it - lots more new homes to claim for - all her relatives can have new tellies, dishwashers and whatever else.  2 Jags can get another Jag or 6. Liar Blair can get several new payed for mortgages. Millipede can get his cousins and sisters and brothers and aunts into parliament as ministers of something. Perhaps worse of all the totally creepy Mandy can get elected into Parliament again - and the way he operates can probably stay in the House of Lords at the same time and get loads more loot.

The benefits are of course endless.

Good shout Chancellor Gulpy!!

Leicester Canal information additions.

Spring means time to go further afield from our South Oxfordshire home and do some walking as their is more light in the evenings. We have been back up to the Midlands and walked a nice 20km circular using the Leicester Canal Arm - so our page on the canal has many more photos of the bridges and general scenery in and around that canal.

Bluebell time in England

April 21st, 2009

Spring is here at last - at last meaning that the weather is improving in the Chilterns in England. The bluebells are even better this year - if you want to see millions of them have a look at our Bluebell Walks for a couple of walks amongst these spectacular flower displays.

Also our canals are getting their scenic act together as are the woods with the trees now showing that lovely lime green colour of new leaves. Our English Walks topic has over 20 walks to enjoy in and around The Chilterns or find loads of photos about our canals like the Oxford Canal and Grand Union Canal via our site’s home page.

Volt for Gulpy Brown?

April 18th, 2009

Latest rubbish from “fiscali” Brown - the unelected “and not responsible for anything” person occupying Downing Street. Electric cars and a ukstg 5k grant (or perhaps not that much since the story changes by the minute as one might expect from this person) - so lets all rush out and swop our petrol/diesel cars immediately - or when it all comes in - by which time thank goodness Brown will be long gone).

Trouble is that our electricity is not owned or controlled by the U.K. which is why we still have exhorbitant prices (dollar too high or dollar too low or day follows night - any variety of excuses for the continued price hike on electricity (and gas)). So you will be at the mercy of foreign owned companies who control the prices without any oversight when you want to re-charge your electric car. Does not sound much of a plan - the petrol companies are bad enough (see above i.e. dollar too high or too low …).

Mind you we would always stick a solar panel on our car roof (Gulpy will sell you one for about ukstg 5000 - see his Ebay shop) - and then of course would find a way of taxing the solar panel once fitted as well of course.
